Dear Educators:
Manufacturing Day is a growing grassroots movement of manufacturers dedicated to overcoming the shared challenges facing manufacturers today. The most pressing issue is a gap in skilled labor. Manufacturers’ ability to address this issue has been hindered by the public perception that careers in manufacturing are undesirable and by the lack of sufficient preparatory education. Both of these problems stem from a lack of understanding of present-day manufacturing environments, which are highly technical.
Manufacturing Day gives manufacturers, like myself, an opportunity to raise and address these issues by simply exhibiting what we do to visitors who are curious about manufacturing. I am writing to extend an open-ended invitation to tour Scotchman Industries in conjunction with Manufacturing Day to showcase the potential of modern manufacturing and foster interest in manufacturing careers.
Who: Educators, Junior High, High School, and College Students are welcome to engage and participate in our tour. Not an educator? We have time for you too!
What: An open-ended invitation for factory tours at Scotchman Industries.
Where: Scotchman Industries, 180 US Hwy 14, Philip, SD, USA
When: #MFGDAY18 officially happens on October 5th, but here at Scotchman EVERY DAY is Manufacturing Day and we want to extend an invitation to tour our facilities to all educators at the time that is most convenient for you and your students! Simply contact our factory and set up a time for a tour. Our factory is in full production Monday-Thursday 5am-3:30pm MST.
Why: For over 50 years Scotchman Industries has manufactured American made hydraulic Ironworkers and circular Cold Saws in Philip, SD for worldwide distribution. Across the country manufacturers, like myself, will host Manufacturing Day events intended to draw greater attention to the outstanding opportunities that a career in manufacturing can provide and promote the pursuit of skills that will lead to a long-term career that offers security and growth for qualified candidates.
I sincerely hope you will accept our invitation to visit & tour our factory. Hopefully, by opening up our shop floor, we will be able to show modern manufacturing for what it is — a sleek, technology-driven industry that offers secure, good-paying jobs.
